49’ers Kaepernick Disrespects the United States

(AP Photo/Mark Zaleski)“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses Black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”

Colin Kaepernick is currently in a 6 year, $114,000,000 contract with the San Francisco 49ers, including a $12,328,766 signing bonus, $61,000,000 guaranteed with an average annual salary of $19,000,000.  The sport that made him filthy rich is a product of the United States of America, where, despite his mixed race, he was judged by his ability.

The 49’ers quarterback disrespected the meritocracy, that made his family ultra rich for generations to come, by refusing to stand for the Nation Anthem on August, 26, 2016.

The irony in Kaepernick’s ill-mannered display is that his biological mother was a teenager when she gave birth to her son. She did not have enough money to support the baby after the father declined to take responsibility. In turn, the mother decided to place the baby for adoption. Rick and Theresa Kaepernick (a white couple) took him in and raised him since he was still just five weeks old.

The NFL offered the following statement in response to Kaepernick’s decision: “Players are encouraged but not required to stand during the playing of the National Anthem.”

“This is not something that I am going to run by anybody,” Kaepernick said. “I am not looking for approval. I have to stand up for people that are oppressed. … If they take football away, my endorsements from me, I know that I stood up for what is right.”

Another murder in the streets because the color of a man’s skin, at the hands of the people who they say will protect us. When will they be held accountable? or did he fear for his life as he executed this man?”

Kaepernick owes everything he has to the great country and generous people who reside in it.  Perhaps, some more respect is due?  American’s will ultimately decide how he is to be punished or revered, with their wallets.
