Are Liberals Trying to Get You Killed?

SaltIn 2015, the Salt Supply Company began an Indigogo campaign, touting its idea as a revolutionary home defense alternative.  The campaign promised to deliver a non-lethal option for home defense.

The now released “Pepper Spray Gun” is essentially a paint ball gun that shoots round projectiles filled with oleoresin capsicum, or pepper spray.  The gun utilizes a CO2 cartridge to propel the balls forward.

Oleoresin capsicum (OC) is an agent who’s active ingredient is derived from chili peppers.  It is designed to cause the mucous membranes to overreact and (ideally) cause temporary blindness from pain.

Non Lethal?

The trouble for tree hugging liberals is that OC isn’t necessarily non lethal.  In fact, since 1993, 61 deaths have been attributed to the use of OC by police officers.  In most cases, other factors have contributed to those deaths including, asthma and drug use.  However, purchasers of the Pepper Spray Gun should know that they run the risk, albeit small, of killing the intruder.

Efficacy

Most police departments mandate that police officers who carry OC must be sprayed with the agent.  During that training, police officers are taught that, despite the pain and snot, they are able to fight through the effects of OC.  More concerning is that reports of pepper spray being deployed ineffectively against criminals and inmates are all too common.   On August 10, 2016, a police officer near Syracuse, NY deployed pepper spray to subdue a man with a knife.  To the officer’s surprise, the spray was ineffective and a taser was ultimately used to bring the man down.

If, god forbid, you and your family are the victim of a burglary – pray that you are not home when it happens.  If you are home when it happens, please know that the criminal is aware of that, and does not care.  In some cases, that may be exactly what he wants.  Faced with this scenario, deployment of the Pepper Spray gun is akin to gambling with your family’s lives.  Perhaps, you are ideologically opposed to gun ownership; that’s fine.  Go to your nearest sporting goods store and buy a baseball bat.  You will be better prepared for the fight of your life with a baseball bat, than this piece of garbage.

Cross Contamination
As a former police officer, I was a big fan of pepper spray.  The agent allowed me to disable large and often intoxicated party goers.  That said, my partner and peers were always upset with me after I deployed my OC.  Why?  Well, in power or liquid form, OC creates a cloud that disperses over time.  In a closed environment, such as your home, you can pretty much guarantee that (within) a minute, you and your family will begin to feel the debilitating effects of the agent.  Effectively, taking you out of the fight of your life.
